Paludarium

Where Land Meets Water.

A paludarium is a living ecosystem that combines an aquatic zone and a terrestrial zone in a single enclosure — waterfalls, moss walls, tropical plants, and aquatic life, all coexisting. Aquozy designs and builds these as specialist commissions, tailored entirely to your space.

What is a Paludarium?

Half land. Half water. One living world.

The word paludarium comes from the Latin palus (marsh) — a vivarium that incorporates both terrestrial and aquatic elements. Unlike a standard aquarium, a paludarium has a deliberate land section with soil, plants, moss, and rock above the waterline.

The result is something closer to a miniature rainforest or wetland than a fish tank — dynamic, layered, and deeply immersive. Water features like cascades and misting systems can be included to heighten the naturalistic effect.

What We Design In

Every element, considered and crafted.

Aquozy paludariums are built as complete ecosystems — not just a tank with some plants on top. Every zone, system, and species is selected for long-term compatibility and minimal maintenance.

Terrestrial Zone

Soil substrate, tropical plants, mosses, ferns, and hardscape rock or driftwood above the waterline.

Aquatic Zone

Fully filtered aquatic section with compatible fish, shrimp, or aquatic plants below the waterline.

Waterfall Feature

Recirculating waterfall or stream system built into the hardscape — visual and functional, aerating the water naturally.

Misting System

Automated misting to maintain humidity in the terrestrial zone — essential for tropical plants and riparian species.

Specialist Lighting

Full-spectrum LED lighting designed for both aquatic plants and terrestrial flora — day/night cycle programmable.

Maintenance Plan

Every Aquozy paludarium comes with a recommended care plan — pruning, water changes, and ecosystem health monitoring.

The Process

Six steps to a living, breathing ecosystem.

Paludariums are specialist builds. Every step is deliberate — from the first conversation to the day we hand you a thriving miniature world.

01
Vision & Brief

We discuss your space, aesthetic, species preferences, and ecosystem type — rainforest, riparian, or custom.

02
Ecosystem Design

Zone planning — aquatic depth, terrestrial layout, water features, misting routes, and plant/species selection.

03
Structure & Hardscape

Tank installation, substrate layering, rock and wood hardscape built to support both zones structurally.

04
Planting

Aquatic plants, mosses, ferns, and terrestrial species planted according to the design — each in its correct zone.

05
Water & Misting Systems

Waterfall pump, recirculation, filtration, and automated misting system installed, calibrated, and tested.

06
Flora & Fauna Introduction

Compatible aquatic and semi-aquatic species introduced after establishment. Full handover brief included.
